CVE-2021-28651

CVSS v3.1

7.5

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Squid versions prior to 4.15 Squid versions 5.x prior to 5.0.6
Description The issue exists due to insufficient input validation when resolving urn: scheme identifiers, allowing a remote attacker to cause a denial of service. When resolving a request with the urn: scheme, the parser leaks a small amount of memory. However, there is an unspecified attack methodology that can easily trigger a large amount of memory consumption.
Recommendations For Squid versions prior to 4.15, update to version 4.15 or later to resolve the issue. For Squid versions 5.x prior to 5.0.6, update to version 5.0.6 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the urn: scheme to minimize the risk of exploitation.
