CVE-2021-31154

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions pleaseedit versions prior to 0.4
Description The issue is related to the use of predictable temporary filenames in /tmp and the target directory. This allows a local attacker to gain full root privileges by staging a symlink attack. The vulnerability can be exploited to access confidential data, disrupt data integrity, and cause a denial of service.
Recommendations For versions prior to 0.4, consider restricting access to the /tmp directory and the target directory to minimize the risk of exploitation. As a temporary workaround, avoid using the pleaseedit utility until a patch is available. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
