Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Cisco IOS XE Software for Cisco Catalyst 9000 Family Wireless Controllers (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue is related to insufficient validation of CAPWAP packets in the Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) protocol processing. An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this by sending a malformed CAPWAP packet to an affected device, potentially causing the device to crash and reload, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition.
Recommendations
For Cisco IOS XE Software for Cisco Catalyst 9000 Family Wireless Controllers, update to a version that includes the software updates released by Cisco to address this issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the CAPWAP protocol to minimize the risk of exploitation.
