CVE-2021-39257

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions NTFS-3G versions prior to 2021.8.22
Description The issue is related to the ntfs attr pwrite function in the NTFS-3G file system driver, which is affected by uncontrolled recursion. This can be exploited by an attacker using a specially crafted NTFS image, potentially leading to a denial of service. A crafted NTFS image with an unallocated bitmap can cause an endless recursive function call chain, starting from ntfs attr pwrite, resulting in stack consumption.
Recommendations For versions prior to 2021.8.22, update to version 2021.8.22 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of NTFS images with unallocated bitmaps to minimize the risk of exploitation.
