CVE-2020-10729

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Ansible Engine versions prior to 2.9.6
Description A flaw was found in the use of insufficiently random values in Ansible. Two random password lookups of the same length generate the equal value as the template caching action for the same file since no re-evaluation happens. The highest threat from this vulnerability would be that all passwords are exposed at once for the file. This issue may allow an attacker to gain access to confidential data.
Recommendations For Ansible Engine versions prior to 2.9.6, update to version 2.9.6 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the template caching action for sensitive files until a patch is available. Restrict access to confidential data to minimize the risk of exploitation.
