VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Foxit PDF Reader (affected versions not specified) Foxit PhantomPDF (affected versions not specified)
Description This issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations. User interaction is required, where the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The flaw exists within the parsing of PDF files, specifically due to the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a heap-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this to execute code in the context of the current process.
Recommendations For Foxit PDF Reader, update to a version that addresses the heap-based buffer overflow issue. For Foxit PhantomPDF, update to a version that addresses the heap-based buffer overflow issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the parsing of JPG2000 files in PDF documents until a patch is available. Restrict access to malicious web pages and avoid opening untrusted files to minimize the risk of exploitation.
