Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue is related to a lack of authentication procedure in the Linux kernel, specifically in the control groups and namespaces subsystem. This allows an unprivileged user to write to a file handler, potentially crashing the system or escalating their privileges. The flaw affects both cgroup1 and cgroup2 versions of control groups, enabling a local user to exploit it. The vulnerability is also related to a lack of permission checks in cgroups functions when writing to a file descriptor, which could lead to arbitrary data being written to files, resulting in a denial of service or privilege escalation.
Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
