Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue is related to the use of an uninitialized resource in the
mxl111sf init() and mxl111sf get stream config dvbt() functions. The problem arises from the wrong location of the mutex init() call, which was previously in the ->init() function but needed to be initialized before frontend attach(). This could allow an attacker to cause a denial of service. The mxl111sf ctrl msg() function uses an uninitialized mutex, which is the core of the problem. To resolve this, a ->probe() call was added to all mxl111sf * devices to initialize the mutex.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
