Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
The Menu Image, Icons made easy WordPress plugin version 3.0.6 and earlier
Description
The issue arises from the lack of authorization and CSRF checks when saving menu settings. Additionally, the settings are not validated, sanitized, and escaped. This allows any authenticated user, such as a subscriber, to update settings or arbitrary menus and insert Cross-Site Scripting payloads. These payloads will be triggered in the related menu on the frontend.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 3.0.6, update to version 3.0.6 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to menu settings to only trusted users until the update is applied. Avoid using the vulnerable plugin functionality until the issue is resolved.
