CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions KiCad EDA versions 6.0.1 and prior
Description A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the Gerber Viewer gerber and excellon ReadIJCoord coordinate parsing functionality. This vulnerability can be triggered by a specially-crafted gerber or excellon file, potentially leading to code execution. An attacker can exploit this issue by providing a malicious file.
Recommendations For KiCad EDA version 6.0.1, consider avoiding the use of the Gerber Viewer until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, restrict the use of the ReadIJCoord coordinate parsing functionality in the Gerber Viewer to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
