Description The issue allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands, such as starting the telnetd service, by injecting shell metacharacters into the sysNewPasswd and sysConfirmPasswd parameters in the "admin account.cgi" API endpoint.
Recommendations For NETGEAR R8500 version 1.0.2.158, avoid using the sysNewPasswd and sysConfirmPasswd parameters in the "admin account.cgi" endpoint until the issue is resolved. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the admin account.cgi endpoint to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
