CVE-2021-44730

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions snapd versions 2.54.2 through 2.54.3+18.04 snapd versions 2.54.2 through 2.54.3+20.04 snapd versions 2.54.2 through 2.54.3+21.10.1
Description The issue is related to a hardlinking error in the snap-confine binary of the snapd utility. A local attacker can exploit this by creating a hardlink to the binary, allowing them to execute arbitrary binaries and gain privilege escalation.
Recommendations For snapd versions 2.54.2, update to version 2.54.3+18.04 or later. For snapd versions prior to 2.54.3+20.04, update to version 2.54.3+20.04 or later. For snapd versions prior to 2.54.3+21.10.1, update to version 2.54.3+21.10.1 or later. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the snap-confine binary to minimize the risk of exploitation.
