Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Intel(R) Processors (affected versions not specified)
Intel Core i7-1185G7
Intel Core i9-12900K
Haswell series
Description
The issue is related to non-transparent sharing of branch predictor selectors between contexts in some Intel(R) Processors, which may allow an authorized user to potentially enable information disclosure via local access. This is connected to errors in handling parameters in the implementation of the Intra-mode BTI (IMBTI) microcode of Intel processors. Exploitation of this issue can allow an attacker to obtain sensitive information. The estimated performance loss due to mitigations against this issue is up to 35% in some Intel processors.
Recommendations
For Intel Core i7-1185G7, consider applying the Linux update as a mitigation measure, despite the potential 35% performance loss.
For Intel Core i9-12900K, consider applying the Linux update as a mitigation measure, despite the potential 35% performance loss.
For Haswell series, await the release of Intel's security update, as this series is considered highly vulnerable.
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability in other affected Intel(R) Processors.
