CVSS v3.1
9.8
Critical
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
OpenImageIO version 2.3.19.0
Description
A heap out-of-bounds write issue exists in the way OpenImageIO processes RLE encoded BMP images. A specially-crafted bmp file can write to arbitrary out of bounds memory, which can lead to arbitrary code execution. An attacker can provide a malicious file to trigger this issue.
Recommendations
For OpenImageIO version 2.3.19.0, consider avoiding the use of RLE encoded BMP images until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, restrict the processing of bmp files to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
