CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions NIKON NIS-Elements Viewer version 1.2100.1483.0
Description This issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations. User interaction is required, where the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The flaw exists within the parsing of BMP images due to the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a heap-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this to execute code in the context of the current process.
Recommendations For NIKON NIS-Elements Viewer version 1.2100.1483.0, as a temporary workaround, consider disabling the BMP image parsing functionality until a patch is available. Restrict access to potentially malicious files or websites to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
