Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
D-Link DIR-825 versions 1.0.9/EE
Description
This issue allows network-adjacent attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of D-Link DIR-825 routers. Authentication is not required to exploit this issue. The specific flaw exists within the xupnpd service, which listens on TCP port 4044. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of a user-supplied string before using it to execute a system call. An attacker can leverage this issue to execute code in the context of the admin user.
Recommendations
For D-Link DIR-825 version 1.0.9/EE, as a temporary workaround, consider disabling the xupnpd service until a patch is available. Restrict access to TCP port 4044 to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
