Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Vim versions prior to 8.2.4938
Description
The issue is related to a NULL Pointer Dereference in the
vim regexec string function at regexp.c:2733. This allows attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted input. The vulnerability can be exploited by an attacker to cause the application to crash, potentially by tricking a user into opening a specially crafted file.Recommendations
For versions prior to 8.2.4938, update to version 8.2.4938 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of crafted inputs that could trigger the NULL Pointer Dereference in the
vim regexec string function until a patch is applied.Exploit
