CVE-2022-2124

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Vim versions prior to 8.2
Description The issue is related to a buffer over-read in the Vim text editor, specifically in the current quote() function located in textobject.c. This can be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code. The vulnerability is also associated with boundary conditions in textobject.c, which can be exploited by creating a special file, tricking the victim into opening it, and causing an out-of-bounds read error to read system memory contents.
Recommendations For versions prior to 8.2, update to version 8.2 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of the current quote() function in textobject.c until a patch is available. Avoid using files that may trigger the out-of-bounds read error in the affected textobject.c module.
