Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
D-Link DIR-2150 version 4.0.1
Description
The issue is related to a stack-based buffer overflow in the anweb service of the D-Link DIR-2150 router. This allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected device. The anweb service listens on TCP ports 80 and 443 by default. The problem arises from the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a fixed-length stack-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this to execute code in the context of root. No information is provided about the estimated number of potentially affected devices or real-world incidents.
Recommendations
For version 4.0.1, consider disabling the anweb service until a patch is available to prevent exploitation. Restrict access to TCP ports 80 and 443 to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the anweb service until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
