Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
D-Link DIR-2150 version 4.0.1
Description
The issue is related to a stack-based buffer overflow in the anweb service of the D-Link DIR-2150 router. This allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected device. The flaw exists due to the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a fixed-length stack-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of root. No authentication is required to exploit this vulnerability. The anweb service listens on TCP ports 80 and 443 by default.
Recommendations
For version 4.0.1, consider disabling the anweb service until a patch is available to prevent exploitation. Restrict access to TCP ports 80 and 443 to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
