CVE-2021-3696

CVSS v2.0

6.9

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions grub2 versions prior to 2.12
Description A heap out-of-bounds write may happen during the handling of Huffman tables in the PNG reader, leading to data corruption in the heap space. The impact on Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability may be considered Low due to the complexity of controlling the encoding and positioning of corrupted Huffman entries to achieve results such as arbitrary code execution and/or secure boot circumvention.
Recommendations For versions prior to 2.12, update to version 2.12 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the PNG reader to minimize the risk of exploitation.
