CVE-2022-41848

CVSS v3.1

4.2

Medium

VectorAV:P/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions through 5.19.12
Description The issue is related to a race condition in the Linux kernel, specifically in the drivers/char/pcmcia/synclink cs.c file. This condition can lead to a use-after-free scenario if a physically proximate attacker removes a PCMCIA device while the ioctl function is being called. The race condition occurs between the mgslpc ioctl and mgslpc detach functions. This can potentially allow an attacker to cause a denial of service.
Recommendations For Linux kernel versions through 5.19.12, consider disabling the use of PCMCIA devices or restricting access to the ioctl function until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, avoid removing PCMCIA devices while the ioctl function is being called to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
