Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
OpenImageIO versions 2.4.4.2
Description
The issue is related to denial of service vulnerabilities in the image output closing functionality. Specially crafted ImageOutput Objects can lead to null pointer dereferences. An attacker can provide malicious inputs to trigger these vulnerabilities, which applies to writing .fits files. The vulnerability can be exploited by a remote attacker using a specially crafted file, potentially leading to a denial of service.
Recommendations
For version 2.4.4.2, consider disabling the image output closing functionality until a patch is available. Restrict access to the ImageOutput Objects to minimize the risk of exploitation.
