CVE-2023-2110

CVSS v3.1

8.2

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Obsidian desktop versions prior to 1.2.8
Description The issue is related to improper path handling, allowing a crafted webpage to access local files and exfiltrate them to remote web servers via "app://local/". This can be exploited if a user opens a malicious markdown file in Obsidian or copies text from a malicious webpage and pastes it into Obsidian.
Recommendations For versions prior to 1.2.8, update to version 1.2.8 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of the app://local/<absolute-path> protocol in Obsidian until a patch is applied. Additionally, users should be cautious when opening markdown files from untrusted sources or copying text from potentially malicious webpages.
