Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Android versions prior to the fixed version
Description
The issue is related to a missing permission check in the onCreate method of ManagePermissionsActivity.java. This could allow an attacker to bypass factory reset protections, leading to local escalation of privilege with physical access to a device that's been factory reset. No additional execution privileges are needed, and user interaction is not required for exploitation.
Recommendations
For Android versions prior to the fixed version, consider restricting access to the ManagePermissionsActivity.java until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, disabling the
onCreate method in ManagePermissionsActivity.java may help minimize the risk of exploitation. However, this should be done with caution and only by experienced developers, as it may have unintended consequences on the device's functionality. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.Missing Authorization
