Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
InsydeH2O versions 5.0 through 5.5
Description
The issue is related to insufficient input validation in BIOS Guard updates, which can lead to memory corruption in SMM. An attacker can exploit this by supplying malformed inputs to the BIOS Guard SMI handler, potentially causing damage to memory.
Recommendations
For versions 5.0 through 5.5, consider restricting access to the BIOS Guard SMI handler to minimize the risk of exploitation until a patch is available.
As a temporary workaround, avoid supplying malformed inputs to the BIOS Guard SMI handler.
