CVSS v3.1

6.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions LiteSpeed Cache plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 5.6
Description The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the esi shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Approximately 4 million sites are exposed to this issue.
Recommendations For LiteSpeed Cache plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 5.6, update to a version that addresses the insufficient input sanitization and output escaping issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the esi shortcode until a patch is available. Restrict access to pages that use the esi shortcode to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the esi shortcode in pages until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
