CVE-2023-5001

CVSS v3.1

6.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Horizontal scrolling announcement for WordPress plugin versions up to, and including, 9.2
Description The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the horizontal-scrolling shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes, such as attributes provided by users. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
Recommendations For versions up to, and including, 9.2, update to a version that addresses the insufficient input sanitization and output escaping issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of the horizontal-scrolling shortcode until a patch is available. Additionally, limit contributor-level and above permissions to trusted users to minimize the risk of exploitation.
