CVE-2023-5127

CVSS v3.1

6.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions WP Font Awesome plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 1.7.9
Description The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via shortcodes due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on the icon user-supplied attribute. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
Recommendations For versions up to, and including, 1.7.9, update to a version higher than 1.7.9 to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the shortcode feature to minimize the risk of exploitation. Additionally, restrict the use of the icon attribute in shortcodes until a patch is available.
