Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
WP EXtra plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 6.2
Description
The issue allows authenticated attackers with subscriber-level permissions and above to modify the contents of the .htaccess files located in a site's root directory or /wp-content and /wp-includes folders, potentially achieving remote code execution. This is due to a missing capability check on the
register() function.Recommendations
For WP EXtra plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 6.2, update to a version that includes a fix for the missing capability check on the
register() function to prevent unauthorized modification of data. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the register() function until a patch is available.Exploit
