Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Live Chat with Facebook Messenger plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 1.0
Description
The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin's 'messenger' shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
Recommendations
For versions up to, and including, 1.0, consider disabling the 'messenger' shortcode until a patch is available to prevent exploitation. Restrict access to the plugin's configuration to minimize the risk of unauthorized modifications. As a temporary workaround, limit contributor-level and above permissions to trusted users only. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
