CVE-2023-38430
CVSS v2.0
9.4
Critical
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:N/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.3.9
Description
An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel where ksmbd does not validate the SMB request protocol ID, leading to an out-of-bounds read. This could allow a remote attacker to access protected information or cause a denial of service. The vulnerability is related to the
ksmbd verify smb message() function in the fs/smb/server/smb common.c file of the KSMBD file system.Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 6.3.9, update to version 6.3.9 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the ksmbd module to minimize the risk of exploitation.
