CVE-2023-38427
CVSS v3.1
9.8
Critical
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.3.8
Description
The issue is related to an integer underflow and out-of-bounds read in the
deassemble neg contexts() function in the fs/smb/server/smb2pdu.c file of the KSMBD filesystem in the Linux kernel. This can allow a remote attacker to access protected information or cause a denial of service.Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 6.3.8, update to version 6.3.8 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the
fs/smb/server/smb2pdu.c module until a patch is available. Avoid using the deassemble neg contexts() function in the affected kernel versions until the issue is resolved.Fix
Integer Underflow
Out of bounds Read
