Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
PHOENIX CONTACT WP 6xxx series web panels versions prior to 4.0.10
Description
The issue is related to the use of hardcoded credentials in the web panels for managing and monitoring processes in industrial systems. An authenticated, remote attacker with admin privileges can read hardcoded cryptographic keys, allowing the creation of valid session cookies. However, these session cookies are not sufficient to obtain a valid session on the device. The attacker can potentially gain unauthorized access to protected information and compromise its integrity.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 4.0.10, update to version 4.0.10 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the web panel to minimize the risk of exploitation. Additionally, restrict admin privileges to only necessary users to reduce the potential attack surface.
Fix
Using Hardcoded Credentials
