Description The issue is related to the ethtool: strset: fix message length calculation in the Linux kernel. The outer nest for ETHTOOL A STRSET STRINGSETS is not accounted for, which may result in ETHTOOL MSG STRSET GET producing a warning like "calculated message payload length (684) not sufficient" and a splat. Three conditions must be met for the warning to trigger: there must be no skb size rounding up, the string set must be per-device, and the device name must be at least 12 characters long. The issue could potentially happen when reading priv flags or with syzbot.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
