Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue is related to a kernel panic that occurs when a skipped partition is encountered, specifically when the entry name is empty, causing the kernel to panic in the cleanup function due to a NULL name entry. The parser logic has been reworked to first check the real partition number and then allocate space and set data for valid partitions, addressing the fundamentally incorrect logic that returned an incorrect parts number for skipped partitions. This could potentially allow an attacker to cause a denial of service.
Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
