CVE-2022-48978

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 6.1.0-rc4-syzkaller-00159-g4bbf3422df78
Description The issue is related to a shift-out-of-bounds bug in the hid report raw event function. This bug occurs when the size of the integer n is bigger than 32 in the snto32() function, resulting in a shift exponent that is too large for a 32-bit type 'int'. The vulnerability may allow an attacker to cause a denial of service.
Recommendations To resolve the issue, update the Linux kernel to a version that includes the fix for the shift-out-of-bounds bug in the hid report raw event function. As a temporary workaround, consider adding a check on the size of the integer n in the snto32() function to prevent the shift-out-of-bounds bug.
