CVE-2023-35956

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions GTKWave version 3.3.115
Description Multiple heap-based buffer overflow vulnerabilities exist in the fstReaderIterBlocks2 VCDATA parsing functionality. A specially-crafted .fst file can lead to arbitrary code execution, which requires a victim to open a malicious file to trigger these vulnerabilities. The issue concerns the decompression function fastlz decompress.
Recommendations For GTKWave version 3.3.115, as a temporary workaround, consider disabling the fastlz decompress function until a patch is available. Restrict access to the fstReaderIterBlocks2 VCDATA parsing functionality to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid opening suspicious .fst files with the affected version of GTKWave. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
