Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Horizontal scrolling announcements plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 2.4
Description
The issue arises from insufficient escaping on the user-supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query in the plugin's 'hsas-shortcode' shortcode. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries, potentially extracting sensitive information from the database.
Recommendations
For versions up to, and including, 2.4, consider disabling the 'hsas-shortcode' shortcode until a patch is available to prevent exploitation. Restrict access to the shortcode for users with contributor-level and above permissions to minimize the risk of sensitive information extraction. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
