CVE-2023-6986

CVSS v3.1

6.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions EmbedPress – Embed PDF, YouTube, Google Docs, Vimeo, Wistia Videos, Audios, Maps & Any Documents in Gutenberg & Elementor plugin for WordPress versions up to 3.9.5 (exclusive)
Description The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin's embed oembed html shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
Recommendations For versions up to 3.9.5 (exclusive), update to a version 3.9.5 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the embed oembed html shortcode to minimize the risk of exploitation. Additionally, restrict contributor-level and above permissions to trusted users only.
