Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
NewsMash theme for WordPress versions up to, and including, 1.0.71
Description
The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via a malicious display name due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This allows authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
Recommendations
For versions up to, and including, 1.0.71, update to a version higher than 1.0.71 to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the display name field to prevent malicious input. Additionally, restrict Contributor-level access and above to minimize the risk of exploitation.
Fix
XSS
