Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
NewsmanApp plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 2.7.6
Description
The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin's 'newsman subscribe widget' shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
Recommendations
For NewsmanApp plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 2.7.6, update to a version higher than 2.7.6 to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the
newsman subscribe widget shortcode until a patch is available.
Restrict access to the newsman subscribe widget shortcode to minimize the risk of exploitation.
Avoid using user-supplied attributes in the affected shortcode until the issue is resolved.Fix
