CVE-2024-1766

CVSS v3.1

5.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Download Manager plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 3.2.86
Description The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via a user's Display Name due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This allows authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The exploitation of this issue requires social engineering and has a limited impact, as it necessitates a user to login as the user with the injected payload for execution.
Recommendations For versions up to, and including, 3.2.86, update to a version that addresses the insufficient input sanitization and output escaping issue to prevent Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting subscriber-level access and above to minimize the risk of exploitation. Additionally, restrict the ability to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages by limiting the Display Name input to prevent malicious code execution.
