Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Simple Membership plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 4.4.2
Description
The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the
Display Name parameter due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The exploitation of this issue requires social engineering and has a limited impact, as the attacker needs a user to login with the injected payload for execution.Recommendations
For versions up to, and including, 4.4.2, update to a version later than 4.4.2 to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the
Display Name parameter to minimize the risk of exploitation. Additionally, be cautious of social engineering attempts that may try to trick users into accessing injected pages.Fix
