Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
The Favorites plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 2.3.3
Description
The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin's 'user favorites' shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes such as
no favorites. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.Recommendations
For versions up to, and including, 2.3.3, update to a version that addresses the insufficient input sanitization and output escaping issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the
user favorites shortcode or disabling it until a patch is available. Additionally, restrict contributor-level access and above to minimize the risk of exploitation.Fix
