CVE-2024-29891

CVSS v3.1

8.7

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions ZITADEL versions prior to 2.42.17 ZITADEL versions 2.42.17 through 2.48.3
Description ZITADEL users can upload their own avatar image and various image types are allowed. Due to a missing check, an attacker could upload HTML and pretend it is an image to gain access to the victim's account in certain scenarios. A possible victim would need to directly open the supposed image in the browser, where a session in ZITADEL needs to be active for this exploit to work. The exploit could only be reproduced if the victim was using Firefox. Chrome, Safari as well as Edge did not execute the code.
Recommendations For versions prior to 2.42.17, upgrade to version 2.42.17 or later. For versions 2.42.17 through 2.43.10, upgrade to version 2.43.11 or later. For versions 2.43.11 through 2.44.6, upgrade to version 2.44.7 or later. For versions 2.44.7 through 2.45.4, upgrade to version 2.45.5 or later. For versions 2.45.5 through 2.46.4, upgrade to version 2.46.5 or later. For versions 2.46.5 through 2.47.7, upgrade to version 2.47.8 or later. For versions 2.47.8 through 2.48.2, upgrade to version 2.48.3 or later. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the avatar upload feature until a patch is applied.
