Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Salient Shortcodes plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 1.5.3
Description
The Salient Shortcodes plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Local File Inclusion via the
icon shortcode image attribute. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to include and execute arbitrary files on the server, enabling the execution of any PHP code in those files. This can be used to bypass access controls, obtain sensitive data, or achieve code execution in cases where PHP file types can be uploaded and included.Recommendations
For Salient Shortcodes plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 1.5.3: Update the plugin to a version higher than 1.5.3 as soon as possible to mitigate the risk of Local File Inclusion.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the
icon shortcode image attribute to minimize the risk of exploitation.Fix
