CVE-2024-3984

CVSS v3.1

6.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions EmbedSocial – Social Media Feeds, Reviews and Galleries plugin for WordPress versions up to, and including, 1.1.29
Description The issue is related to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin's 'embedsocial reviews' shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user supplied attributes, such as embedsocial reviews. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page, potentially through API endpoints like "/wp-admin/admin.php" with vulnerable parameters like shortcode attributes.
Recommendations For versions up to, and including, 1.1.29, update to a version higher than 1.1.29 to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the embedsocial reviews shortcode until a patch is available. Restrict access to pages that use the embedsocial reviews shortcode to minimize the risk of exploitation.
