CVE-2024-40886
CVSS v3.1
8.8
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Mattermost versions 9.8.x through 9.8.2
Mattermost versions 9.5.x through 9.5.7
Mattermost versions 9.9.x through 9.9.1
Mattermost versions 9.10.x through 9.10.0
Description
The issue is related to a failure to sanitize user inputs in the frontend that are used for redirection, allowing for a one-click client-side path traversal that leads to Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) in the User Management page of the system console. This can result in unauthorized actions on behalf of users.
Recommendations
For Mattermost versions 9.8.x through 9.8.2, upgrade to a version later than 9.8.2.
For Mattermost versions 9.5.x through 9.5.7, upgrade to a version later than 9.5.7.
For Mattermost versions 9.9.x through 9.9.1, upgrade to a version later than 9.9.1.
For Mattermost versions 9.10.x through 9.10.0, upgrade to a version later than 9.10.0.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the User Management page until a patch is available.
