CVE-2024-40928

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description A null pointer dereference issue has been identified in the Linux kernel, specifically in the ethtool get phy stats ethtool() function. This issue arises when the 'ops->get ethtool phy stats' pointer is null. To address this, the function now returns '-EOPNOTSUPP' when 'ops->get ethtool phy stats' is NULL, thus fixing the error condition. The Clang static checker (scan-build) warned about this null dereference at net/ethtool/ioctl.c:line 2233, column 2.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
